Re: sound box membrane
What you need is a replacement aluminum diaphragm. You may want to post a wanted ad in the UK/European Trader section of this forum, and make sure you include the diameter of the diaphragm, because they vary in size.
It is possible to make a replacement using thin aluminum or similar metals. Years ago, I made one out of an aluminum pie pan--the type that frozen pies come it--but an authentic or real diaphragm will probably work better.

Re: sound box membrane
Your old membrane is not a fake, its just damaged.
The corrugations around the outside of the old membrane give it compliance but the damage in the center means that the membrane is not pumping properly. You need a new membrane, called a diaphragm, which you can find on Ebay.
Flat membranes without corrugations do not offer enough compliance and wear the record faster.

Is that an HMV 5b soundbox? Or another HMV model?

Check your measurements, this MAY be what you need.

Do you have a Facebook account?
There is a restorer on FB who lives in Ankara: his name is Mustafa Çelik. He does very good restoration work, and he may be able to repair or replace your diaphragm.

Re: sound box membrane
This is a Columbia soundbox, a badge version of the HMV No.5b, and uses the same diaphragm. It has to be that particular one, as the stylus bar has to be soldered to the reinforced hole in the centre of the diaphragm. There is no way of attaching it to the hole of any other diaphragm.
