I have yet to see two Edison models that have the same size grille. I don't know for a fact all are different, but everyone one I have seen was different.

If this is true for the W&M and London models, a simple measurement of the grill opening and the honest confirmation :? from the members of the board should help settle the debate.
Why do we need signatures when we are on a first avatar basis?

Just keep in mind that if you transfer the motor into the London Console, you'll be up for a new horn.
The LC-38 had the smallest sized no.100 horn, & I presume the mystery machine has the largest no.250, being a laboratory.
It looks like it was a W&M upright to me. I think they've cut off the legs & stretchers, and the straight legs would have held the record storage door.
Personally, I dont think I'd bother swapping the parts and down grading to the smaller horn.
I'd probably wait until an empty laboratory cabinet turned up, then swap everything over.
In the meantime I'd enjoy the big 250 horn, and make some bizaar grille for the modified cabinet- maybe something more art deco, an Edison script, or do something completely over the top like clouds, mountains, a house and a tree :)
Then again, you could get a small horn, sell the big one, the grille, the lab plaque, and maybe even the lid, and put the motor in the London model. If you added an LP attachment at a later date, it would be more legitimate having a double spring motor.

Hmmmmm.... I don't think so. I think it's an upright William & Mary as it has the offical lab model tag, gun metal tonearm and I bet a double spring motor. Also the WM grill is much larger than the London grill. The London would have had a sinle spring motor and nickel or plain black tonearm, no lab model designation. :monkey:

I meant the cabinet is not like a William and Mary other than the motor and grill parts. They obviously are. But the narrow legs and and other trim look more like a salvaged london model to me.

OK, I give up it may be a william and mary due to the size of the horn and motor. Its just that the as mentioned the legs do not match the william and mary type. I think this is the machine the fellow was trying to sell for some time on ebay that he claimed was an experimental design?

The W&M grille is 16.75 x 14.5 inches. It is too large to fit on the london console
and also the motor board is too big. The horn is larger as well for that matter. I think like Shane says its best to just put the motor on ice for now until I get a
better cabinet. $100 for a good diamond reproducer and motor/horn is fair enough so I
am still happy with the deal. I may have a baby console on the way next week in any case. Looks like my standard door XVI is sold so I have a spot for it lined up. :)

It does have a double spring motor by the way. :)
