Wanted: winding handle/crank HMV table model

Post by schweg »

Crank needed for HMV Model 103 or 107 (I think?). This has the 400 series motor shown on PG. 184 of His Master's Gramophone (Oakley and Proudfoot). The motor requires a longer reach for the male threaded end than what occurs on a common Victrola crank. About 9 inches. Please PM if you have one.
Also still seeking a carriage/trunion for a Col. AO as well as a horn elbow for a Rigid Arm Victor M

Thanks- Steve

9" ? are you sure ? I would have thought 7" on this machine , but you need to measure it easily done using a thin dowel road or knitting needle placed into the winder and measured to 1" outside the case

This seems a 103 or 109, but someone has installed on it the tonearm from a portable 102, which seems too short for this machine. It will play havoc with any record... More photos would be helpful... That gramophone should carry the adequate thin swan neck tonearm with no4 soundbox . One from a 101 cannot be used, for it has a different angle for the sb, you must look for the correct one.

It's a 103. The 109 uses a double-spring No.32 motor.

Good point about the arm. The one fitted is not from a 102 portable, both the shape and base are wrong, but the correct arm shoudn't be hard to find. Meanwhile, as stated don't play records that you value, as the present set-up will wreck them!

A few more pictures. I'm not an HMV expert but the pictures I see online make it looks like the tonearm is original but perhaps with a later reproducer.

Would you mind to take a clear photo of the tonearm Base?

To illustrate my point, here are the pictures of the arm on a 102 portable. As you can see, it is much more angular than the one fitted to the OP's machine, which is also much higher than the 102 arm, which is only about a quarter of an inch above the turntable mat.

Just as I thought. Definitely not the arm from a 102!
