1933 Durium Advertising Record - 4 inches accross!

Post by JHolmesesq »

Hi everyone,

I have come into ownership of an unusual advertising record - it's 10cm accross, and it was made in 1933 by the Durium company to promote The Standard Motor Co., Ltd. It's very worn out, and evidently time hasn't been too kind to it - but it has it's original sleeve and a price list of cars on the back which is charming.

I presume they will have been given out for free as a promotion for the company, it's great! The seller said he found it in a local garage when they were having a clean out :)

Thank you very kindly for sharing this record. It's a great piece of history and also I'm glad it has been posted in the correct section of this forum.

There were also Duriums made extolling the virtues of the Chevrolet, I have one someplace. When I digitize it, I will share.

I have a similar auto-advertising record for Chevrolet, probably late 1920's.

It is square, made of brown fibre-board with some sort of hard coating on the playing side.

On the back-side is a US Postal Service metered-mail address label / postage stamp.

Don't know if it's "Durium" or not, but it fascinated me as a little kid...

The Chevrolet record [roughly 3" across] advertised a six-cylinder model for $440, fob Flint, Michigan. The year of it, as I remember was either 1931 or 1932.
