I'm a novice, still learning.
My reproducer on my Credenza is the pot metal version and is cracked (see picture). The old lady that I bought my Credenza from said it was her Aunt's, so I'm sure that it's the original one. I'm told that it'll keep cracking over time and that a rebuild might make it disintegrate. So, I'm looking for a great looking and sounding gold version, rebuilt and ready to be played on a regular basis. I'm assuming that they originally came with either or version?
Thanks everyone!

Re: WANTED: Credenza reproducer, ly rebuilt and ready to be
The brass orthophonic reproducers were only manufactured for a short while, then Victor switched to pot metal, because it was easier and cheaper to manufacture. For several years their recipe for pot metal produced the results we see with your reproducer, expanding, cracking and disintegrating over time. Later into the 1930s RCA Victor still made orthophonic reproducers for their portable series, still made from pot metal, but with a better recipe. These tend to be still in good condition. Only difference is that they have some kind of screen behind the front bezel - and of course RCA Victor on the back. So that would be one option for you. Another option would be to contact Wyatt Marcus (MicaMonster on the forum). He does wonders for even very questionable pot metal reproducers and can possibly make it sound a lot better and maybe stabilize it a bit. A third option would be to replace the crumbling front and back covers of your reproducer with newly made replacement parts. You can either do it yourself or have someone do that for you. Ron Sitko and others sell these rebuild kits. With that option you get a brand new looking reproducer in either gold or nickel that still retains the original needle bar and aluminum diaphragm. In combination with a bit of gold Rub'n'Buff on the tonearm your machine would look amazing I think.SittingRabbit wrote:I'm a novice, still learning.

You'll need nothing more than to get your brass reproducer, you've pictured in your other posting, rebuilt.

No disrespect, but his original reproducer as pictured in his previous post is not a brass one... unless my eyes are failing.

No problem. Here is his brass one that I referred to; viewtopic.php?f=7&t=46239&start=10
