The one Reiss is referring to is like the one on the left in my picture above-- though, I believe, would be earlier than just "pre-WWI"- It has a round needle hole (as opposed to triangular)and small knurled, round locking nuts (rather than hex) on the mounting screws. They are often found on early external horn machines.

I would love to see any other modifications that are similar to the one on the right in my picture above, where someone has machined the back plate in a manner similar to mine or something entirely different.

I love this hobby- There is always something new to experience.
