Edison Fireside B Crane

Just finished my Fireside B and bought a crane. The problem is, it doesn't fit. The elbow of the horn hits it in the back and the top does not line up with the attachment on the horn. I tried bending, but it is pretty tough and I didn't want to put more force on it unless I had to. Suggestions? Thanks in advance! Jim

Is this for a cygnet or straight horn?-- also is the carriage a top, horizontal one or a slanted one?

There are different cranes depending upon what the set up is. You may have the wrong one- Ron Sitko carries both types.

Most Edison Fireside model B phonographs used a horizontal carriage and Diamond B reproducer. So, presuming this is the setup on yours then you need a Cygnet crane that was made for that configuration. As Brad mentioned, Ron Sitko (518-371-8549) should have the correct reproduction (very well made and function exactly the same as originals) Cygnet crane. Let Ron know your phonograph model, reproducer and carriage configuration (horizontal or angled) and he will tell you the correct crane and will most likely have one in stock at what I (and most other collectors) consider a reasonable price. Now, if you have an EARLY Cygnet horn that does not have the 'captured' swivel eyelet that would connect to a spring and threaded adjustment screw then you would need to mention that as well. Most Edison Cygnet horns use the captured swivel eyelet to connect to the crane.

I concur with the previous posters. Talk to Ron.

A few years ago I needed a Cygnet crane for a late model Home. I saw an original cygnet crane for sale in a booth at the Union show for a reasonable price, but the seller had no idea what it fit. He let me borrow it, and I walked 50 feet to Ron's booth. Ron took one look at it and said, "That fits a Standard." So I did not buy the original crane, but instead bought a nice Home repro crane from Ron.

The length of the lower vertical section of the cygnet crane differs for the various models.
