I have never understood the reluctance of some sellers to post portables. By restricting their market to bidders living near enough to collect, they usually sell cheaply.
Posting portables is neither difficult nor expensive. Given proper packing there is little risk of damage in transit. I have been doing it successfully for years.

Probably reluctant because they've never posted a parcel in their lives ! 
let alone ever having packed one -- its just uncharted territory for some folks. I spent nearly 25 years working in the parcel delivery industry -- I could tell some tales of total lack of ability and competence in some poor souls to pack anything securely for transit and handling through a third party agency !
