Victrola L-Door XVI: What Does the Back Door Knob Look Like?
The early, (1909 era), L-Door XVI I just bought has a "trap door" in back that hinges down. It's missing a knob. Can anyone please post a photo of the correct knob? Thanks!

This is the knob on the rear door of mine. I recently purchased this machine, with little provenance, but I assume it is original. Someone may prove me wrong.

I am under the impression that it is the same knob as the pull out shelf below the speaker doors.

I think that John is correct. Mine uses that same knob.Ripduf1 wrote:I am under the impression that it is the same knob as the pull out shelf below the speaker doors.

Yes, the knob on my VTLA is the same as on the shelf, although i don’t have one for my L-door XVI.

Looking at photos, it appears that some XVI's have/had them and some never did. This, judging by the appearance of an empty screw hole, or no evidence of screw hole at all.

There is a hole in the back door of the XVI B, just no knob there. I also have a slightly later XVI D in the basement that needs work, but it is also missing the knob (and a few knobs on the front as well).

According to the packing slip for the L-door XVI, it lists the rear door knob as a loose item. This means that some owners could have never installed the knob, which would explain the empty screw hole.JerryVan wrote:BillH_NJ wrote:Yes, the knob on my VTLA is the same as on the shelf, although i don’t have one for my L-door XVI.

Very nice machine Jerry, congrats.
For what its worth the knob on the back door of my L-door matches the knob on the record shelf.
