There are many different types of record repeaters, some are more expensive than others, but all are pretty rough on records and needles. They are fine as novelty items, but you really don't want to use them on anything valuable.

Actually, I have a Repeater Stop record repeater and it works quite smoothly --- both in picking up the reproducer at the end of a record and putting it back down at the beginning. I venture to say the Repeater Stop can handle a reproducer more gently than some people do. The real drawback is using the same needle more than once, although I suppose a Tungs-tone stylus could be used. There is another record repeater (whose name escapes me just now) very similar in design to the Repeater Stop that also functions very gently, but lacks the automatic stop feature.

See a Repeater Stop (not mine) in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbnuR0QccpA
