How to take Columbia grafonola reproducer apart to restore

Post by Victrolaman »

Ok guys you helped me get the reproducer off the arm, now that I go it off, how do I take it apart to put new mica and gaskets in it?
It looks like it unscrews but I'm not sure

You need some little pliers to loosen the lock nuts on the needlebar pins. If you stick a screwdriver in the pin you'll snap off the little shoulders and ruin it. The needlebar is held against the mica with a tiny nut. This is a bit of a challenge. To unscrew the face ring pound two phono needles into a board to poke into the holes. Be very careful, if needle slips out of hole you'll have a nice scratch. There are several gaskets stacked up, make a note of their order. Oddly Columbia gaskets do not harden like Victor and don't need rebuilding except for cleaning. Of course you know about a soldering gun and beeswax.
