Globe-Wernicke Brown disc record cabinet, 12 -drawer

Post by cheryla »

Got a call, a gentleman wants to sell his 12-drawer disc record cabinet. I need record storage so am headed out but it’s 9-10 hours ‘round trip. Does anyone have one of them? How do you like them?

What kind of value can you ascribe to these large Globe Wernicke cabinets, both the 12 drawer model and the model that resembles their standard bookcases with the glass fronts? I am having trouble finding any information on these

Screen grab of a 12-drawer Globe-Wernicke cabinet from an eBay listing for their catalog (not mine). I own a three-tier glass front barrister-type sectional record storage cabinet with accessory drawers at the bottom. Mine is by S&B (Spencer and Barnes) and spaced for Diamond Discs. I also own a similar-style Edison factory cabinet which appear infrequently. I appreciate the style and functionality of both cabinets. Please post pictures of yours when you get it home!

Edit: Whoops, didn't realize this was a reply to a post from last year. I'd still like to see that cabinet, though, Brad!

This is a small version Brown's disc record cabinet. Fits the Victrola IX

I find it amusing that the the G-W version of the small Brown's cabinet states "Not designed for use as stand for talking machine." Reminds me of the hairdryer warning: "Not for use while sleeping."

I'd love to find one or two of the barrister type someday.

What a great cabinet and a lucky find! Congrats to you! Holds about 25 records per drawer, so 300 records total for this one, but looks like you might be able to squeeze in a few more records, if they'll fit under that retainer arm.
