Re: Grabbed a new sign.....
it's certainly an unusual sign as it has " The gramophone co ltd " on the bottom which is odd , I have only seen one other like it and it is an oval sign and can be see here
http://vintageenamelsigns.com/hmv-rca-v ... sa-enamel/
Described as "HIS MASTERS VOICE (HMV) OVAL. Late 20’s early 30’s USA for RCA. This for it’s age is n great condition a little damage to the edges but it is nearly 100 years old. It has some gloss to the enamel , it does have some stains from over the years and this is one of the rarer ones
Original/Reproduction: Original
Country/Region of Manufacture: United States "
Clearly the Made in US for RCA is nonsense as it would use VICTOR or RCA not the gramophone Company
I suspect it is original and may be Indian in origin as they made enamel signs well into the 1950's
Enamel signs were made in the UK by Garnier until the 1980's see picture below 1st one reproduction 2nd one original photo enamel from 1920 ?

Double-sided enameled signs hung from store interiors and exteriors to advertise gramophones and records. There are many variations of these enameled signs as shown in our books on Nipper collectibles. These signs are believed to be made in India in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Some examples of these signs are found in Nipper Collectibles Vol. 1, page 3-10.
Covid 19 have many collectors home bound. It is the perfect time to purchase many of the books written on the various aspects of our hobby. George Paul and Tim Fabrizio authored some great books with outstanding research. The Columbia books by Howard Hazelcorn are great.
Enjoy a book, stay safe and healthy.

Perhaps if someone has a copy of this book they could scan and upload pics I'm sure Rob & Joan wouldn't mind ?soundgen wrote:Some page pics of these would be great if you could deign to do thisAudioAntique wrote:Double-sided enameled signs hung from store interiors and exteriors to advertise gramophones and records. I wouldn't presume to know if Robin & Joan would mind, but from a recent thread perhaps we can draw a conclusion, "If you really love Nipper, it would be wise to purchase our books and find out if a questionable Nipper item is a “friend or faux.”" My suggestion too, fwiw...soundgen wrote:Perhaps if someone has a copy of this book they could scan and upload pics I'm sure Rob & Joan wouldn't mind ?soundgen wrote:Some page pics of these would be great if you could deign to do thisAudioAntique wrote:Double-sided enameled signs hung from store interiors and exteriors to advertise gramophones and records.
