Wow, what a difference. Finally I can actually listen to all my Diamond Discs without skipping etc. :D
I really thought they were all worn out beyond repair, because they sounded so badly. The stupid hinge block on my reproducer was so frozen that I did not even think that it was supposed to move.
Now, after two days of soaking in Liquid Wrench it finally started getting loose. And I was about to send my reproducer off to have the diamond replaced.
I'm a happy camper now. I forsee many hours listening to the 150 DDs I brought back from Wayne 8-)
Thanks for all the info

I second the motion! I played about a dozen more records, some were really
rough too. The skipping is virtually gone, only skips a bit on records that have
obvious steel needle damage. Thanks again for all the great advice!

Well, finding a gold reproducer was not as painful as I thought it would be...

they aren't hard to find at all, but hopefully you have a good stylus in it. I bought several for cheap when I was trying to get a good original stylus for my C-19, it took several tries. Finally, about a month ago I got one that not only looked new, I'd swear it was, the diamond had no dirt or dust on it at all and the plating is perfect. The seller also gave me a lateral Kent adapter like one I've never had before, it rotates to play Pathé records and it had a Pathé stylus with it....score....it cost me all of $40 with shipping.

Hopefully you've got a good one!

So true, the tricky part is getting one with a good diamond. According to
the listing this one was tested at least. Seems like most of them are
"as found" which means the diamonds are trashed most likely. I was
surprised to see some gold ones with questionable condition selling for
$50 to $70. You definitely scored with that deal, no doubt! I got a kent
adapter with the C-250 but I have yet to test it out.

Kent made at least three different adapters that I've seen. The earliest ones were just the elbow designed to take a Victor reproducer, then two types that took their own Kent reproducers which are decent sounding as long as you have good pot metal. I'm only guessing here, but I would think the lateral / vertical one probably came before the lateral only one. It's got a much nicer design to the reproducer than the later one does and the pot metal is much better. I have a number of lateral / vertical Edison adapters...someday I should photo them all and start a thread... :D

Anyway, let us know how you make out!

Sean
