Paramount model XV serial # 825 in Alaska

Post by SteveinAlaska »

Hello all! I have not been this way in awhile, but still up & active.
Just found this Paramount floor model player model XV serial number 825 reading from the paper glued to he bottom of the machine. As usual, the reproducer is of unknown origin and broken. The mechanism does wind up and move but could use servicing. So my work is cut out for me for a few days and will contact the parts suppliers after the weekend.
Going online, I did not find much of anything about this particular model so I am hoping someone here may be able to fill me in with some info on this one. And I thank you in advance for the help.

One last thing this did come with a Puritan and 2 Gennett records.

Was this made by THE Paramount (Blind Lemon Jefferson) (Charley Patton) fame?

Greetings to you!

It is nice to see interest in the lesser known off-brands.

The Paramount phonograph was made by the United Phonograph Corp., a division, or descendant if you will, of the Wisconsin Chair Co. Your model originally sold in 1919 for a retail price of $125. This manufacturer also made the Puritan phonographs and the mechanical components in these two different machines (that we own) are identical. Keep this in mind when looking for any parts you may need.

Good luck on the project and please post some pictures.

I guess the machines from this company ain’t near worth as much as some of their records!
People nowadays probably think of Paramount as a Blues only label today. I’m sure they put out Henry Burr of Billy Murray titles on Paramount too.

I wonder if somebody not familiar with Henry Burr thought this was one of Paramount’s famous blues records!

No, Andy, it certainly wasn't. It was posted by someone with a certain sense of irony, which apparently, you don't grasp.
