Legit victor 3?

Post by rbosco »

Have a chance to buy this for $500. Comes with decent horn. But platter looks too big, crank and crank plate not a victor iii I don’t think? Not sure about speed control and stop mechanism either. Any thoughts?

I agree with James to be cautious. Looks like a non-Victor crank which makes the motor suspect. A 12" turntable would never be original equipment on a Victor III. Looks like a Victrola brake. The speed control looks non-Victor which is another clue that the motor has been replaced.

What kind of horn does it have? Pics? If it happens to be a nice wood horn then it's still a nice buy! Even an excellent morning glory horn plus a nice tone arm and back bracket may be worth the asking price, (or a negotiated lesser price). But then you've got some nice parts and will need to find a good cabinet, motor & turn table to mount them to. This cabinet has likely been ruined by the addition of the wrong motor. Notice the metal plate where the crank comes out? What's underneath that plate will not be pretty.
