FOR SALE: Amberola 1A outfit - see details - $4700 reduced

Post by 52089 »

I have decided to sell my Amberola 1A as I find I hardly ever use it anymore.

This is machine #257, a mahogany Pooley cabinet with the uncommon cloven feet. The grill is the common grill similar to the one used on the A250 Diamond Disc.

This comes with 2 complete, working motors. One is #257, which matches the ID plate. This motor came with the machine but I do not use it. It needs a new belt and has a wobble on playback, which is probably just a governor issue. The motor that's currently in the machine is a later example. I bought this from a board member because the bedplate is about as clean as I've ever seen. This motor plays well.

You also get 2 reproducers. There is a Diamond A in fine shape, but also the rare and desirable M which plays both 2 and 4 minute cylinders. The oxidized finish on the M was restored by the late Steve Farmer. Steve declined to rebuild the reproducer himself because the previous owner had done a very good job.

I am in the process of taking pictures and will have more shortly. I've attached a couple showing the machine with other machines. You can also hear the machine play with both reproducers on my YouTube channel:

The finish on the machine appears original to my eye, but there is one small area where the finish is built up and may have been retouched. Photos coming.

The only "defect" is that the lid support bracket does not seem to work properly when it's inside its holder. I keep the brace outside that part and it works fine. I'm sure this is a minor adjustment.

I think $4700 is fair for a good machine with 2 reproducers and an extra motor but I'm willing to discuss reasonable offers. PM or email to discuss further. If there's no interest in the outfit as a whole, I am willing to separate as needed. See post below.

I am in the Boston suburbs. I'm not able to deliver, but I am more than willing to help you pick up from here or work with any moving/uship company.

Here are a few more pics. I have several more I can email (much easier to email a bunch of pics than to post them).

Also wanted to mention that this comes with a working dolphin key. It's slightly bent but works fine. Also includes Shawn's high quality copy of the setup instructions. It does not come with any of the records shown, those are just for illustration. I will throw in some other records on request.

Questions, comments, etc. welcome. I hope to have pics of the other motor soon.

OK, let's try this. I'll break this up a bit.

Amberola 1A with original motor: $3200
Add Model M reproducer +$900 ($4100)
Add later motor +$800 ($4000)
Add both Model M reproducer and later motor +$1500 ($4700)

If someone buys the 1A with original motor but doesn't want the other pieces, I will sell the Model M for $1000 and the other motor for $900, or $1750 together. (At this time, I'm not selling these individually.)

If you need more info or more photos, just ask. I'll also listen to realistic offers.

Thanks!

Kevin
