Thanks for all the great info, i have reached out to Gramps for a price, a great resource i didn't know about. I picked up the Sonora today for $150. i have restored lots of Victrolas but this Sonora is a first. I inspected and photographed it today, I think it is a 1918. I read somewhere that the date might be on the bottom of the small drawer, does anyone know if that correct? Also, how does the drawer come out? It seems to have something stopping it from coming out all the way.
Here is a photo of the entire unit, other than the grill, restore looks pretty straight forward. I am in the middle of a 1914 XVI restore and have two XVII's waiting but thinking of jumping into this one.

colmike1 —- please post a pic of your loose grill. I can ID it for you.

Bob (a Sonora guy)
Thanks for the correction... you just can't trust what's posted on the internet... :?

Jon, that's a great price for a good restoration candidate. It looks in good condition, other than the grill and Sonoras are great quality machines... Good luck with the grill.

What are the measurements? I have a spare Sonora grill but I don't know which model it is from.

Hi Mike,

Your loose grill is from a Sonora Barcarolle. The Barcarolle was the smallest of the “bulged” Sonoras, and was three inches shorter than the Baby Grand. Sorry, not a match...

Stay well,
Bob

If anyone would know, it would be you! Thanks for identifying the grill.

I’ll take a look at what I have—the Sonoras are great machines!

I’m always sorry to be the bearer of bad news Jon. Too bad Mike’s grill was not what you needed! Baby Grands in mahogany are relatively common, as far as Sonoras go, so I think you may get lucky and find the right one eventually.

Good luck with the restoration,
Bob
