Victor Victrola VV-XVI with Vernis-Martin Finish?

Post by maswank »

Wow, did this thing really sell for $130 because it was misidentified?

Maybe because it has been heavily modified during it's life. It also depends on how much damage was done internally in order for the mods to fit.
Still a good deal.

Still, it's an interesting old conversion: maybe ca. 1929? Apparently they retained the original spring motor! :geek:

I saw this machine, and thought about bidding, even though I wasn't really in the place to deal with it. Even if the restoration cost $10,000, you would still have an absolutely lovely top-of-the-line machine at a fantastic price. There is a time when this would have sold in excess of $15,000. Here's to hoping it doesn't get gutted to make a nice liquor cabinet.

I have both a mahogany and an oak horn for an L door machine. Each has the iron part and mounting screws. $60 each for the lucky new owner. Does anyone know what wood type is under the finish? John

At least it’s not a 60s era conversion with a BSR turntable or something like that. Or something like this that I found a couple years ago... (I did buy the reproducer and needle chuck which now lives on my VV-50 and VV 8-4.) but a sad ending to a 1913 XI. (Which had the vertical racks for record storage)
