VE 8-36 light is missing - photos?

Post by vichighmathguy »

Hello everyone,
I have acquired a VE 8-36 (similar to VE 8-35) which does not currently have a light inside the turntable compartment. I suspect that it had one as there is a hole in the back right corner that would allow an electrical cord to pass through to the underside of the motor board. Also, there are two small holes (see photo) which have had screws in them which may have secured a light to the back wall. Would someone mind taking a photo of their existing light so that I can have an idea of what I need to be looking for to replace it? Or maybe you have one for sale?
Thanks very much all :-)

It looks like this. This one hasn't been cleaned up but is available.
PM or email if interested. It is interesting that all the 8-35's that I have seen have had the oxidized bronze tone arms.
Best Regards,
Jeff

Without seeing a picture with the light in mounted position, I have to ask: is it mounted with the light on the left of the 2 mounting holes or to the right? Also: I don't see a switch on the light. What turns it on? Wiring it in with the motor switch doesn't seem logical as one would want the light on before the motor is switched on in order to see to change needles. Your thoughts please?
Thanks very much,
Don

The compartment light on a VE 8-35 is mounted from the top. The light is connected to a switch on the lid support. Open the lid, the light turns on. I also noticed the gold used needle cup behind the turntable. It is mounted in the drawer on the 8-35's. [70]

Thank you, Jeff - a lid switch that I hadn't (but should have) thought of. Here is a picture of the lid support mechanism. I have circled the location at which I imagine the switch would have been. I would love to see an image of what that looked like, or even better, locate one that someone has that they would sell.

With respect to the mounting location, there is only one location that has holes that match those in the light pictures you posted and that is on the upper back wall rather than on the overhanging upper board (underside of the top of the machine).
I see also that there is evidence of 1 and 2 mounting holes (circled in accompanying photos). I don't know if this is to secure a length of wood that would hide the wire or whether there are some sort of wire clips - if you have an opinion on that, I would be happy to hear it.
And Jeff, I sent you a PM yesterday but will amend it to ask if you have any or all of the parts that I need to complete the missing bits. I am very happy that you might sell the light.

I am pretty sure I can come up with a switch too. But did not receive any PMs.

Don, click on Skihawk's "contact baloon", then click on the folder on the left of the popup to send him a PM...

Thanks, Curt - that's what I did with my second effort. We shall see how that makes out.
Cheers,
Don
