Orthophonic reproducer question - the diaphragm.

Post by ymg200 »

Is diaphragm the same between Victor's early brass and later pot metal orthophonic reproducers?
I wonder it I can swap the diaphragm between the two.
Thank you.

Yes, you can swap them but they are not exactly the same thickness. The early diaphragms, used with the brass bodies and the first style of potmetal bodies (those with the needle thumbscrew coming straight out of the needle chuck) are slightly thinner than those used with the later style potmetal reproducers with the angled thumbscrews. I don't know why this was done, but it seems to make little actual difference in performance. Perhaps it had something to do with the introduction of the phasing plug.
