Early Edison 2clip Standard 2/4 min conversion

Any thoughts on this Standard?? Located in Australia.. Serial No. s 849.

Certainly has been modified by the looks of it.

No joke - I’ve got an Edison Standard 2 Clip that was a complete wreck that I had restored, number S848!

KWC doe's your machine have notches around the perimeter of the case??

Wondering what the four notches could possibly be used for ??

Also any idea on the earliest Serial Number for these Standards??

Really amazing to see this machine that has the very next serial number to mine. I posted a while back on how I got it in terrible condition and had it redone by Shenandoah Restorations. Picture is Below. There are no notches in mine and it’s only got 2 minute gearing. I had to get reproducer clips as the originals were gone and ended up getting the ones with two holes (original single holed clips are expensive!). Interesting that the one from Australia has no striping. I had it put in mine since I assumed the original did. The original paint on the base plate was destroyed and rusted to the entire thing had to be redone. What a small world!

I guess your reply is aimed at me the original poster.. I only posted because it's the first time I've ever seen an early 2cliip Standard that had been converted. Also the 4 notches in the case were a mystery that I was hoping to get comments on. I don't believe it's for sale but saw it on a Social Media site.

I converted one of my later square case standards to 2/4 just to see if it could be done and how well it would play Amberolas . It is reversible. That was not a good conversion as it just finished a four minute cylinder. I probably should change the drive spring and it would be better. The earlier machines took one screw clips to hold the reproducer in and they are not cheap. They also take an automatic reproducer to be close to original . That one would probably need a standard reproducer. The holes in the case may have been used for some type of crane but that is only a guess. I went back and enlarged the stream and is a nice machine. It has a nice green reproducer which was an earlier one . That is a nice one to keep in the family. Tom

I’ve got an automatic for mine but it doesn’t sound great. I’ve got a winged model C reproducer I used instead which sounds great!
