I'm slowly organizing my massive collection and will be offering some nice duplicates- and sometimes triplicates!- from my collection.
1. Victor 21611, McKinney's Cotton Pickers, "Milenberg Joys/ "Shim- Me- Sha- Wobble". Solid hot arrangements of these jazz classics by this great Don Redman band. Visual E-, plays E+, sticker A side label $35 NOW $25
2. Victor 22877, Ted Weems Orch., "Carolina's Calling Me" (waltz)/ "One Of Us Was Wrong". Great Depression dance B. Wes Vaughan vocal A, Elmer Tanner B. visual E that plays almost NM. Tiny 1932 Scroll label. $30 NOW $20
3. OKeh Electric 40896, Arnold Frank's Rogers' Cafe Orchestra, "Black Maria" / Rain". Recorded at the Radisson in Minneapolis in September 1927. Great band with a really nice "mellow yet hot" arrangement on "Black Maria" with really nice solos and ensemble work. "Rain" is also nice but is definitely more dance than jazz. Visual V+ due to scuffs and superficial marks. Actually plays about E- very enjoyable! $25 NOW $15
4. QRS Q-1000, Cova Cavaliers (probably a Carl Fenton outfit) "Have A Little Faith In Me" / "Right Or Wrong I'm Still In Love With You". Visual E that plays about V due to bumpy/ harsh hissy shellac. These late Cova QRS series only lasted about a year and didn't sell well. They are quite rare today. Two very capable and bouncy Depression dance sides $30 NOW $20 SOLD!
5.Brunswick 3741- King Oliver's Dixie Syncopators, "Farewell Blues"/ "Sobbin' Blues". Visual V+ to E- that plays about E or better. Great stuff, obviously! $40
6. Columbia 1478-D, Paul Whiteman Orch., "FELIX THE CAT"/ "Mother Goose Parade". Bix, Tram, Busse, the Dorseys, etc., all on these fine sides. One of the toughest "Potato Heads" and a solid E+ that plays about as close to new as you'd want! $75 SOLD!
7. Melotone M-12068, Mills Music Masters, "My Ideal" / "Reaching For The Moon" (waltz). End of the line for these great 1920s Irving Mills studio groups. Recorded Jan 10, 1931, Rust shows both titles as "rejected" by Brunswick, but they were obviously pressed on Brunswick's (then) new "Melotone" budget label. I never listened to the waltz side, but "My Ideal" is a super nice Mills-y dance band arrangement with a killer period Sid Garry vocal. Visual V+ to E- that plays at least E $25 NOW $20
8. Brunswick 4968, "Bennie" Goodman's Boys, "Muskrat Scramble" (sic) / "After Awhile". Two fantastic "Dixieland" sides from an early BG- led session in Chicago August, 1929. Wingy Mannone, Bud Freeman, Harry Goodman, Joe Sullivan, Herman Foster, Bob Conselman present. Visual V to V+ with faded labels that actually plays at a solid E-. $45 NOW $35
9. Brunswick 3997, Johnny Dodds' Black Bottom Stompers, "When Erastus Plays His Old Kazoo" / "Joe Turner Blues". Two stompin' sides by a true master! This is a LOUD record- so loud, most copies wore out quickly on vintage gramophones. I'd suggest playing this one on a modern TT. Most copies you'll find- if any- will be lucky to be V-, but this one's a solid E that plays at grade or better. $75 NOW $50
10. Victor 24156, Leo Reisman Orch., "Whistlin' For A Kiss" / "BROTHER, CAN YOU SPARE A DIME?". The dramatic Reisman treatment on "Dime" really makes it "pop" with urgency. Tiny 1932- only Scroll labels. Visual E- that plays at a SOLID E+! $40 NOW $30 SOLD!
11. Brunswick 6537, Dorsey Bros. Orchestra, "Mood Hollywood" / "Shim Sham Shimmy". Fine band that usually includes Glenn Miller- but Rust says Miller isn't present on this session. Interestingly enough, there is a twin trombone duet here even though Rust only lists one person on TB- Tommy. Now, Tommy was great, but I'll bet he couldn't play two at once, so draw your own conclusions... but Bunny Berigan is here! Early 1933 release. visual E+ that plays as new. Scarce! $30 NOW $20 SOLD!
12. Gennett New Electrobeam 6009, Willie Creager's Rhythm Aces, "Here Or There" / Joe Candullo Everglades Orch. "Lonely Eyes". Extremely scarce issue- visual E that plays V+ to E due to shellac issues. $45 NOW $35
