Well I would be very interested to hear if a 1-64 UNC screw does fit! Hopefully shouldn't be too expensive to buy one. If possible get one in brass as if there is a slight difference in thread pitch then the screw should deform slightly to cope. Thanks

Thanks I will let you know, sourcing these may be a problem. I do have model airplane
stuff around maybe in that stuff. These are tiny screws though.

This got me thinking as to how to size a screw thread which is too small for the pitch gauge (maybe I just need a finer gauge!). Anyway I did some experimenting and put this little video together:
