Victor 7-11`X

Post by need4art »

Hi All,
There is a 7-11X on craigslist for sale in Phoenix and I am going to take a look at the machine. It is untested and is missing some wood around the speaker surround. The pictures are very dark but I was told about the wood when I called. They are asking $500 but will take any offers This one is a bit out of my league in understanding what it is worth or even if it is worth having in my collection. Any thoughts about this machine and what I might shoot them as an offer we be great. And by the way happy Thanksgiving to you all.

The 7-11 has never really appealed to me since it is much like having a portable phonograph mounted in a big cabinet. Sound wise, the performance will be much like a VV 2-55. The radio and phonograph do not share the same horn/speaker.
Best regards ... AZ*

The cabinet is extremely disproportionate to the machine

Abe, considering the fact that the radio is "untested" I'd assume it doesn't work and would need a complete overhaul. Even if the machine was worth $500 you'd need to subtract off at least that cost, plus cabinet repair, plus any other hidden issues. It's hard to say what it's really worth, but I'm pretty sure its much less than $500 even it everything worked.

Thx to All,
I thought that I might want to add an electric motor radio combo at some point and I can do much of the electrical work myself -replace resistors and caps and such-but was not really in love with the look of this unit-so I think I will just pass.

The Radiola 18 is a pretty reliable receiver and usually only needs one power resistor replaced in the power supply. As was pointed out the The 7-11 was a portable phonograph in a cabinet with a RCA Radiola 18 radio. The two 7-11's I've seen were converted to Electrola with after market parts. This may have even been done in the 20's by the dealers. In apperance it is a pretty dull cabinet. It was clearly a price point model with little engineering effort. Same is true for the 7-10 and 7-25 although the 7=25 has a nice cabinet and gold hardware. The 7-26 is a little better as it is truely an Electrola is still at the low end for volume and sound quality.
