My newly purchased H-51 (RE-57)!

Post by gunnarthefeisty »

Figured since I was new here I'd make a quick post about my latest purchase. It definitely needs some work, but I definitely got it at a good price- only 245 dollars. This was made by General Electric and is practically identical. Thankfully the previous owner replaced the capacitors, the ones buried in tar. The only problem is, I'm in Minneapolis and it's in West Virginia!

I think I like the look of this GE more than the RCA Version. It is funny that GE and Westinghouse made all radios and electronics for RCA in the 1920's. And the RCA made all GE and Westinghouse items in the early 1930's.

yeah, it's definitely a better cabinet. I've heard the amplifier isn't as good.

How did I forget the RE-57 was a micro-synchronous tuner. I was confusing your H-51 with my RCA Radiola 86 which has the exact same super heterodyne chassis.
Both the RE-57 and the Radiola 86 use push-pull 45's. I would expect them to be very similar in audio performance.

hopefully, they do. I'm most likely having the pickup rebuilt this month and hopefully my friend Roland can fix the auto stop (it may have been wired backwards) but at least the radio works good.
