Off Topic Craigslist Question
I had a non phonograph item that I thought would sell better in Canada than the US so I put an ad it craigslist vancouver bc. Almost as soon as it was posted, it was flagged and taken off craigslist. Why? Is there a rule about listing something over the border? I did not have another ad with the same item so it was not duplicated. Any ideas? Thanks, Jerry

Yes!!!. I have had that happen to me too. It is against CL rules. It is considered "spam" or over posting. I tried to sell something in Seattle and it was flagged ASAP.

Re: Off Topic Craigslist Question
Craigslist really goes out of their way to stop any kind of non-local transactions. They are so worried about scams and fraud that it is kind of insulting to the public's intelligence. When they shut down the national search "Craiglook" it was very annoying to say the least. Not sure on what legal pretense they were able to pull that one off.

Legal pretense? Not required. It's THEIR site, THEIR rules.antique1973 wrote:Not sure on what legal pretense they were able to pull that one off.

Craiglook (http://claz.org/) was a separate company as far as I know. Since Craigslist is accessible for anyone on the internet, I can't see how they can control a separate company that just happens to
provide a more useful conduit to their website(s). The legal system here is not to be understood however, I have learned that much.

Re: Off Topic Craigslist Question
Funny you brought up Craiglook. I had a discussion about this with a friend of mine a few days ago about this. I am also wondering what the legal standpoint was that held water on this one. I also agree that Craiglook had no affiliation with craigslist from a business standpoint. So on what grounds was craigslist able to force craiglook to alter their name, site content, etc.?
It was merely a website designed to host the listings on craigslist in a manner which was easier to browse. They are both free sites and like was already mentioned, were both available to the general public without having to register or sign up. I know it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but for the sake of trying to understand the legalities of the issue, does anyone know exactly why craigslist forced the change of both the name of craigzoom's website as well as the content that they are allowed to publish?

Well, I for one, miss Craiglook myself.
It was a tremendous timesaver.
