Vic III horn elbows--two types?

I recently noticed I have two types of Vic III horn elbows, one which uses a pin to limit the angle through which the horn can be rotated, and the other, well, without a pin. The picture below will clarify what I mean. I'm not sure what to make of this. Is one a non-Victor elbow, that is, an after-market product? Or did Victor change its elbow design? The no-pin design strikes me as a better design. I don't recall seeing the pin design before, but then again I never really looked. But I'm sure of one thing: someone on this Forum knows.

They're both genuine Victor elbows. I believe the pin style is the earlier version. Others can probably tell you the exact date they changed, .

I am not real big on "exact dates" because I wasn't around then and it ends up being speculation - however by model of Victor machine you are at liberty to hazard your own guess.

In my experience the "pinned" elbow is earlier. I believe it was last seen on the earlier case Victor III and quite possibly the early push button Victor V cases. It would definitely be the proper elbow for earlier machines like the D, MS, M, E and some early I's (smaller diameter)

The "shelf or stepped stop" may have shown up on the before mentioned early style Victor III case (not so sure about that) and was used on all outside horn Rear mount Victor Machines until the slip in elbow showed up.

Both are original and correct.

The late horn machines, including the Victor III, had an elbow that slides down into the back bracket. That would be the third a last variation of the Victor elbows.
