This and another recent thread about auction houses and eBay are related. Your illustrating a Britannia music box brings to mind an episode of about 20 years ago when I bought a similar music box on eBay from a dealer in England. He shipped it to me in a thin cardboard box, with zero packing. It arrived damaged and I asked the dealer to submit a claim to FedEx. He ended up with a settlement, which he pocketed and never remitted to me. Nowadays, a similar incident would be a simple claim "Item Not As Described" and eBay would refund my money. I hate to defend eBay, but as they have evolved they are not only a much cheaper alternative to auction houses, but they also hold sellers accountable.
