WANTED: Brass/Steel rods for Herzog Barrel Cylinder Cabinet

Post by gstone »

Greetings, looking for the rods that hold up the shelves in a Herzog Barrel Cylinder cabinet. (See picture) Original or Repro ok. Need 4 but will take whatever I can get. If you know someone that can fabricate them, I'd appreciate an introduction. Thank you!! Gary

I have three that I purchased several years ago. They are 10 ½" long. If interested, let me know. I'll PM with details.

Thanks-

Yes steel-- As were the originals I had access to-- I haven't see brass ones on the cabinets--- but I've only closely looked at maybe 4 to 5 cabinets when my friend Gene was restoring them. Gene restored at least a dozen half-barrels. I don't recall seeing brass support rods--- but I'm always willing to be educated.

I've made these Herzog support rods from wire coat hangers and they've looked perfect. An easy job.

Thanks George- I purchased rod stock from Lowes-- The originals I've seen are a larger diameter than most coat hangers-- a full ⅛" in diameter -- I guess hangers can work, but all the supports I've seen were much more rigid. Anyway-- I hope Gary can get his cabinet restoration completed.. In the end, the supports are a relatively minor part of the restoration.

I should have specified using the heavier wire coat hangers. I just checked the leftover lengths in my shop and they are indeed ⅛". Either way, it's an easy job to make them.
