During the G&T period some of the top opera singers had their own label colours. These included Pink for Patti, Lilac for Melba, Orange for Battistini and Green for Tamagno. Caruso was generally on the Red label, as he had been since 1902. Things were simplified when the HMV trademark picture appeared on labels in 1909.

If I found a Black Patti record in a second hand store with a big chunk out of it I'd grab it just for the label!

I recall watching a Black Patti record on eBay about 15 years ago. It had a big chunk gone, and still brought over 1k!!
