Can anyone tell me what this thing is?

Post by Zenger »

I found this in a box of phono stuff, most of it much older than I imagine this thing is, since it has settings for 33 and 45. Anyone know what it is, what it does and how it's used? it measures high and maybe half that wide. Thanks!

That is strange, since it doesn't look like any major changes happen when set to 33 or 45... :?

Maybe it's an adjustable phonograph bottle opener accessory...

It looks a lot like part of the auto-return mechanism of a turntable.

That crazy looking gadget is an adapter for dropping 7-inch records on a Webster-Chicago (Webcor) record changer from the early 1950s.

Interesting! Thanks. I should have pointed out that it slides along the 3 pins to expand slightly (hence the spring underneath). Would those have been the home recording discs? Did they record at both 33 and 45 RPM?

No, ordinary 45 RPM singles, along with the 7-inch 33 RPM singles that were marketed by Columbia during that time.
