As Steve says, Alex, the 104 is at the bottom of the tabletop range; if you have the 130, don't bother with the 104. Its motor is severely undersized, and if I am not mistaken it has a 10 inch turntable (the 130 has a 12 inch one).kirtley2012 wrote: Sat Jul 31, 2021 9:33 am905 looks like a HMV 104, I’ve got a 130A, I’m not sure of all the differences between the two, but it is impressive for the relatively small size of itCurt A wrote: Sat Jul 31, 2021 9:27 am What model is lot #905 ? Re: Gramophones at local auction uk
Those listings are at a number of different auction houses ('easyliveauction' is much like 'the-saleroom'). There look to be only the two gramophones, EMG and HMV, in the Ottery auction.epigramophone wrote: Sat Jul 31, 2021 4:15 am I counted 29 machines. Here is the link to them :

The single bid so far on the EMG (£1900 + commission) is already fairly strong given the condition issues - horn damage and scratched up case - although, in its favour, the soundbox looks very nice and quite likely the largest variety of EMG 2-spring, and the horn appears to be suffering little if any of the usual droop. I won't go after this one but I'll probably end up wishing I'd pounced on the Mk IX that sold on Facebook recently at £2500!

Re: Gramophones at local auction uk
Thanks for the info on the table top machine... Now that I know the differences, mine was a 130A, which is not common in North Carolina and I don't believe I have ever seen another. Though small and inexpensive, it seemed to have better sound than comparable Victor machines - the volume was very loud and clear.

The 130 has a tinplate exponential horn, much like the hmv109 and 127, but redesigned for a thicker tonearm, 102-style, but longer. It was the star tabletop ortho machine, until the 150 appeared, which must be pretty similar, but with a more modern style case.
