VV-IX question

I found this VV-IX the other day (didn't buy it yet, the price seemed stratospheric for it's condition), and I am curious about the record cabinet in particular. Is the cabinet an odd model? Every other VV-IX cabinet I have seen goes almost to the floor, with very short legs. Thank you for any input.

The Victrola IX, in any cabinet variation, is always a table model and very common. The one in your photo is flat at its base and slides into the matching record cabinet from the back. The molding at the back of the record cabinet is probably hinged and pivots up completely hiding the bade of the Victrola. The whole outfit gives the impression of a nice floor model. Mahogany is by far the most common wood for a IX.

As Jerry stated, it's a table model. The lower portion is a record cabinet that was offered separately from the machine. I believe that a variety of companies made these lower record cabinets to fit the Victrola IX and other table models. The table model machines set into the top. It is not one unit. The lower record cabinet would add some value to this machine, but yes, the IX is a common (but a very good sounding and reliable) machine.

Thank you for the input. I knew that they were 2 pieces and the machine is a common one, but I was wondering if there was anything special about the base cabinet itself, as I haven't seen one like it (in my limited experiences). They need a lot of love (too much) for $300, IMHO.

Any record cabinet that is designed for one specific machine is desirable. I've seen a number of cabinets like this one and have always admired the clever design. I think at $300 it is worth considering an offer, perhaps $225 cash.

Thank you. I was thinking somewhere around $200 myself, as there is a lot of lifting veneer and regluing work needed on the cabinet as well as the machine itself, the lid hinge is broken on the machine, the functionality of the machine is questionable, and I couldn't really get to it to see the rest of it. The guy is not much for making deals, though. I may pay him another visit after I get back from vacation, and see if some deal can be made.....

This cabinet is made by Herzog. The entire upper rail detaches from the base to remove the phonograph. I have the same cabinet.
