I went on holiday on 2nd August, but on the previous evening my wife and I watched "The Great Caruso" on DVD.
It may be an inaccurate portrayal (members of the Caruso family successfully sued MGM) but no other opera singer has ever been the subject of an Oscar nominated blockbuster film and probably never will be.
Then as now, Caruso stands in a class of his own.
