What model of Columbia is this??

Post by gramophone78 »

I don't think I have ever seen a Columbia machine with two Columbia decals on it. The side view decal ans the banner. The case looks like it is home made.

You have a Columbia Model BN, 1909, with a wood horn. The earlier ones had a banner decal that says The Columbia Disc Graphophone on it. The banner decal looks too new and it says the Disc Graphophone, instead of the Columbia Disc Graphophone. The decal changed was in 1907. The Graphophone profile decal was started in 1908.The BNs are good solid machines and are very affordable. I own 5 of them with many variations. The BN first came out in 1907 using Talkophone cabinets. In 1909, is when your BN came out. They were made until 1914 and in 1915, they were re-designated as the 25H, 25 being the price, and H for horn. You have a very nice machine. BTW, the case looks original to me.

Aha! I had suspected that, after comparing my Talkophone to an illustration of an early BN............although I had read that Columbia started using their cabinets only after a court settlement in 1909....
