I agree with you completely on 8 out of your 10. I haven't heard the Trumbauer or Al Bowley's Midnight The Stars And You, but I'll bet both are great. I might have to cut some of the Motens...I forgot about Potato Head Blues. I just hope I never have to make a choice like that.

Jim - if you watch cult film "The Shining", Midnight, The Stars and You is playing at the end. It's a very dreamy song.
As for Love Affairs - the jazz speaks for itself

Yes! yes! yes! to everyone's list...and toss in :
Vainement ma bien aimee by Edmond Clement Victor 74264 (played at the right speed
)
the unissued Im Chambre Separee..from Midnight Bells by Farrar ( thank you Orthosean!)
Willow Song from Otello Melba's live recording at the Convent Garden farewell
Rachmaninoff Second Piano Concerto played by the composer...either the acoustic or electric version.
Luoghi Sereni e Cari by John McCormack
Just a Little Love Song by Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra
The Merry Wives of Windsor Overture ( Nicolai) Cesare Sodero and the American Symphony on Diamond Disc.
Sei Forse l'angelo from Onegin sung by Claudio Muzio on Edison
And finally two " completes" first, every record the Sir Edward Elgar conducted and secondly every record upon which Kreisler plays.

Someone mentioned Rachmaninoff...
I'll throw-in:
"Golliwogs Cakewalk" (Debussy), perf. by Rachmaninoff; Victor Red Seal

Thanks so much for posting those two songs. So different but so wonderful. I've never heard an Al Bowlly vocal that I didn't like. He was one of the very greatest if not the greatest sweet band singer of all time. And Love Affair, what can I say...Bix, Tram, Lang et al. Great discs all and so many of them. How could one ever choose?

Wolfe wrote: Do you remember what discs either of those estimable singers chose? I remember reading elsewhere that on that show Martinelli chose Caruso's Tu, ca nun chiagne as one. Don't know about any others.
Yes, Martinelli chose Caruso's Tu, Ca nun Chigane.
As for the Louis Armstrong recording, it is indeed a Decca recording. He made recordings for both Columbia and Decca in early 50s as far as I know.
Starkton, you really have lots of interesting recordings on your D.I.D wishing lists - do you have all of them? I wish I could have a Medea Mei-Figner on my hands, but it seems a impossible dream for me. (Although I have few Nikolai Figner G&Ts)....and I always wanted to hear Gustav Walter but never succeeded.

Re: What would be your "Desert Island Discs"??
I only chose records from my collection. The Mei-Figner in excellent condition (original early 1902 issue with large flush label, blank on back) came to me in exchange for a film music disc from the early 1940s on Polydor. As I don't have an electronic turntable I cannot copy the Walter disc for you. It was however reissued as part of the Harold Wayne collection (Vol. 6) in 1994 on Symposium.transformingArt wrote: Starkton, you really have lots of interesting recordings on your D.I.D wishing lists - do you have all of them? I only have 1 Figner in near mint (Les Huguenots: Raoul’s romance, G&T 22594, 1901, flush label, 1st stamper, mid-1902 issue with writing angel on back). Sidenote: I got it almost 10 years ago from a South American collector/pianist/conductor who was murdered soon after during a robbery.
