I just picked up a 1917 VV-XIV Victrola with a double barrel 4 spring motor and it seems like a spring is broken. According to the Victor Data Book, the springs are 1 ¼" x 12'. I haven't opened up the spring barrels yet, but wanted to know who is selling motor springs? I used to get them from Ron Sitko.
Thanks,
AR

Yes, but can't tell if it's 12 feet long.

this is the standard 1.25" spring. There shouldn't be any variation in length.

Re: WANTED: Victrola Motor Spring for VV-XIV
I've seen different spring lengths for the 1.25 width in the Victor Data book depending on the Victrola model incuding 9, 12, 17 and 18.5 feet. So what's considered a standard length?

Re: WANTED: Victrola Motor Spring for VV-XIV
Who knows! Given that one of those barrels can hold a spring from 9' up to 18'6"... The playing time doubles!
I don't know the length of springs in my HMV no34 motor, but it runs for 20 minutes, so each spring is 5 minutes.
I have to count the barrel turns in one complete running to be able to calculate the length, or measure the springs.
I've been living in complete ignorance about that variation, interchanging springs and barrels between three similar motors, HMV and Victor, of the Burton type (1921 new models). And I don't know either HMV specifications, or if they also used several spring lengths....

Instead of guessing or saying anything goes, why not check this authoritative source regarding length?

Re: WANTED: Victrola Motor Spring for VV-XIV
I just completed service of a VV-IV four spring motor a couple of weeks ago. I did not measure the length, but the springs had pear shaped holes on the outside and hook (bend) in the center. So definitely not hole on both ends. Only way to know for sure is to open up the spring barrels and check, or send them to one of the repair shops.

Re: WANTED: Victrola Motor Spring for VV-XIV
My original post was simply trying to find out who is in the business of selling phonograph mainsprings since Ron Sitko passed. I'll know exactly what length I need once I open up the barrel and remove the faulty spring.
