I post very little personal information about myself on the internet. As I am writting this I see that a Yahoo searchbot is indexing our open forums, meaning that anything you post that is public will soon be available to anyone with a search engine. I also work in IT and have to help pick up the pieces from "loose lips" for many of my users.

Anyone can PM me if you want more info at any time.

Some people are afraid that if their identity (and therefore location) is known, asking a question about a prospective purchase will result in somebody locating the same ad & buying the machine out from under them.

I don't want everything about me to be available to the general public. But there isn't any harm in including interests, location, etc. in my profile. I went ahead and updated it for anyone who is interested. If more information is needed for any reason, feel free to send a PM and we can take it from there. I am more than happy to help out with a prospective purchase, phonograph inspection or anything else around the Columbus, OH area if need be. I can see why someone may be leery about losing a possible purchase if they posted a question about it and someone else grabs it based off of location. But I'm not too concerned about that. That's pretty shady and I have found most on this site to be helpful and respectful regarding the hobby. That's not to say it couldn't happen. I guess I would rather have my info available for the sake of helping someone else out if I can.

Interesting thread though and a good observation.

I agree with you Sonnyphono. As long as I'm not publishing bank, credit card info, soc. sec. no's etcetera, I'm not too worried. Having people know my location has helped steer some very nice visitors my way who are interested in the hobby. Anway, if the fraudsters want to get rich, they've chosen the wrong target.
