FOUND: Edison Diamond Disc diaphragm

Post by john9ten »

Hello all

I am looking for a decent Diamond Disc diaphragm. I currently have the copper repro type, and while I must say it sounds great, I prefer a decent original. The only ones I have have broken links. Any assistance is appreciated.

Thank you!

I can't say I've ever seen a copper replacement diaphragm for a Diamond Disc and I'm curious as to where you would have gotten it.

Having said that, Ron Sitko used to stock the cork and rice paper type, so I would assume that the folks who bought his business have them now.

You can also get modern replacements using other materials from Wyatt Markus (Micamonster). Larry (Larryh) used to make a very good diaphragm too, but I don't think he makes them anymore.

The famous Truetone! I don't know who of them two makes these. They talk wonders about the sounds of produces and it's fidelity...

They're not being made anymore sadly, the guy who made them retired.

The copper ones were made some time ago. Sometimes the floss links were too stretchy to give good sound. The reproducer it is for is going to be for sale and I can't afford to put a lot of money into it or I won't be able to sell it. That's why I thought i would look for an original.

If you didn't want to resell it, I would tell you to try a homemade diaphragm. But being for future sale, it is better to find a good original.

With great care and patience, the links on those original DD diaphragms can be replaced. I used some stout cotton carpet thread on a couple of old ones with broken
links and they ended up sounding quite nice.
