Maroon Edison S/N and Service Help

Post by Amandax9362 »

Hi there, I have inherited my mothers Edison maroon Little Gem. It has a K reproducer s/n C15651 a black and gold witches hat horn and the serial number is 319843D so I assume it is a model D. I do not ever recall having seen a lid for it. I live in the suburbs of Dallas and wondered if anyone knew of a reputable repair shop that can give it a once over. I know it plays but it has been in storage for over a decade and needs some oil.

I would also appreciate any advice on if I should get the body restored or leave it as is?

Thanks in advance!

Amanda

I like to keep machines as original as possible, but I think on this occasion I'd probably repaint.
First I'd try to find the correct horn (& crane) and see what it looked like with the machine, then determine whether you can live with the overall appearance of them as is, or whether they both should be repainted.

You can ask George (Phonogfp here) he could give you a rough estimate about your Gem. But his sales data ends before the launch of Model D machines.

Amanda,
I don't have a repair shop, but have collected and repaired phonos for many years, and would be happy to give your Gem a good cleaning and tune up. I live nearby in Arlington and will send you a PM with my contact information if you would like to contact me.
Thanks,
David Boruff
