Rare Oak DGAG / HMV Grammophon Upright in Texas

Finish looks original, the motor is right, and it has the D.G.A.G stamp, suggesting this was made by or for Deutsche Grammophon AG, the German equivalent of HMV. This is a nice piece. You certainly won't find another stateside in a long, long time.

Why would you think that? It looks fine in the images?

It doesn't look right at all. HMV never made a tall slim elegant model of this type without longer legs with some decoration and / or castors. At least I've never seen one anyway.

The legs look too short to me and at least one of them has some damage indicating something is afoot (sorry, couldn't resist that!) and might have been altered.

Look at how decorative it is otherwise. The whole thing looks too stubby and short. The record cupboard is too low down, almost on the floor.

I could be wrong but I think the legs are cut down and obviously missing their brass castors. Being very slender in section the long legs of these cabinets are vulnerable to breaking above the castors. Taking a saw to the leg would "solve" the problem!

It looks like a German version of the Junior Grand without its castors.

I agree with Steve that the legs have been shortened.
This machine resembles the Models G.A.O and G.A.M pictured on Page 103 of HMG more than the Junior Grand.
The legs are longer than the example under discussion and are fitted with castors.
