Are you sure the inconsistency of horn size was not with the A-450 George? As to the A-290, I am the current steward of the one pictured in "Phonographs with Flair". It has the normal ~17" x 12" found in the A-250, 275 etcetera.
The cabinets of the A-275 & A-290 are slightly different too btw. In addition to the 290 cabinet being a bit smaller than the 275, the grill on the 290 is more finely cut and the drawer pull is located higher on the drawer, as opposed to in the center of the drawer on the 275. I suppose that was to avoid the drawer pull covering that nice inlay on the front of the drawer.
