I've recently uploaded a Christmas record on my youtube channel. The record is called "Silent Night, Hallowed Night" on a Columbia record. I still don't get the "Hallowed Night" part of it. I've been getting a lot of comments about the odd name.

I have the Peerless Quartet doing a Silent Night, Hallowed Night on an early Victor. 1904 or something. I've always figured it was just an arcane expression of Holy that dropped away eventually.

Here's a German Christmas record of approximately late 1930s vintage. This transfer is an experimental effort using Audacity in which the disc was played at 45 rpm, some de-noising and de-clicking performed, then digitally manipulated to the equivalent of 78.26, with appropriate EQ then added.

Before 'Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer' was the title of a hit song, there was a children's story of the same name. In fact it had been written some 10 years or so before the song.

Here's a 1947 telling of the story released on an RCA Victor two-record set. The records are pressed on a hard plastic I surmise is some kind of vinyl with some elements of the shellac compound added as well, so the discs could stand up to the abuse of heavy reproducers yet be somewhat break-resistant.

And as may be expected, these are not mint records, they're quite worn.

Actually it's the Haydn.

I have a batwing issue of 16286; it uses take 4 of mx B.2784 which was recorded 27 October 1908. And the group's name is spelt 'Hayden Quartet' on the label.

And then there's the version on Victor 17164 sung by Elsie Baker, recorded 26 March 1912. On it she sings 'slumber in heavenly repose' for 'sleep in heavenly peace'.
