Red-fiber Wonder 7" Records, 1898

Post by AllenKoe »

Hi,

In developing the background for the curious Berliner record of Byron Sunderland (#5013), we have remarked that these "Berliner-pirated" records had the nerve to place an initial "1" in front of each catalog number that was actually originated by Berliner himself. Not much of a subterfuge.

So Berliner's 5013 appeared (in the Wonder Catalog) as #15013. And so on, with EVERY other disc in the 32-page Wonder Catalog of 1898.

My question here is: have any "Wonder" discs survived that show this blatant numbering system ON THE RECORD itself? That is, was there ANY such (Berliner) number with a "1" at the beginning (issued ON the Wonder/Vitaphone label).

Thanks a lot. Every little bit helps...

Allen
