My Frow book says an 8 paneled large horn with crane was issued with
some models but this is without supports. Is is proper for this horn
to be fitted to this model? Thanks for any info.

Re: Proper horn for Gem?
What you have there is a horn made in the 1960s by Karl Frick in Santa Barbara. He made a variety of small morning glory style horns that sat on the reproducer with no crane. They have long been considered abominations but oddly enough they seem to be becoming collectible in their own right after almost 50 years.
I think George Paul may have some old advertising from Frick. George?

Found this reference to the 1974 Frick catalog:
I recall that some people referred to these as "Frick's Freaks." I'm pretty sure I have one buried in my garage somewhere, painted dark orange/red.663 SMALL MORNING GLORY: Cute little many petaled morning glory rides the
cylinder reproducer & does not need a support. About 7" long and just right for
Columbia Q & QC, B and other open works phonos. A real cutie - - - - $9.95
We have a few of these with the "GRAPHOPHONE" "Q" decal that lends charm.
$10.95
664 SMALL MORNING GLORY: As in 663 but about 10" for Gems, Standards,
Columbias. $11.95
665 SMALL MORNING GLORY: As in 663 but about 15". No crane needed and are
ideal on Edison Homes & Standards as well as lyre style Columbia heads.
Mailable. $13.95

Interesting, thanks Rene! Something else is kind of weird, the lift lever
on the carrier arm was supposed to be replaced by the pull knob by the time
this model came out. Only the earliest models with the metal plate on the
front (in lieu of gem logo) should have this feature correct?
