Information on Sonora phonograph

Post by ticticdok »

Just wondering if someone could give me some information about my Sonora phonograph? Such as the model number and such. It is walnut finished cabinet with the wooden tone arm. Thanks! I appreciate it! John

Higher end, I think it might be Baby Grand? Very nice machine.

Hi ticticdok,

Your machine is a Sonora Elite from the 1919 period. A bit earlier, the cabinet style of this model was markedly different. The Elite in the 1920 catalog has a knob only on the right-hand door (yours has a knob on each door). A bit later, the cabinet style was basically the same with some minor differences. In the 1922 catalog, the Elite is shown with a stretcher (with a horizontal top and curved bottom) visible between the two front legs, and the bottom edges of the front doors are horizontal/straight instead of curved. The pics below are from 1919 and 1920 catalogs, respectively.

Hope this answers the questions you might have,
Bob

Do you have the other reproducer in the drawer to play needle cut 78s?
