Who rebuilds reproducers?

Post by eighteenbelow »

Hi, and happy new year to everyone! I'm looking for someone who rebuilds reproducers, and could use some recommendations. I was using one of the better-known restorers (i Won't Mention the name) but have had some unpleasant dealings with him and am looking for someone new. Any referrals would be most appreciated. In the U.S. would be preferable. Thanks!

wYATT mARCUS is the best living reproducer rebuilder. Lots of others do them, and some do certain kinds quite well but others not so well, because some are easier than others. There are others that do meticulous and excellent work, but can at times take months to return your stuff.

But if you want attention to detail and the resulting high quality, combined with quick turnaround, wYATT is the mAN.

Other recommendations? I would appreciate them -- I know there are professionals out there doing this kind of work, even if I haven't heard of them...

What type(s) are you looking to have done? Some folks are better on certain types than others.

And nobody is really doing that well on orthophonics anymore, except for Mr Marcus.

Mr. Steve Medved is good with Edison stuff. I still haven’t sent him my B-19 reproducer because I put that project on hold while I got my DCC tape deck restored.

Scott Holthus at Vintage Music Company, Minneapolis. Good work, although he is busy so turnaround might be a while.

Thanks for the suggestions. These days I mostly need help with cylinder reproducers -- typically Edison C and H, Columbia Lyre and Columbia floating models.

For those, Steve Medved’s excellent. Turnaround time can vary, but the results are always top notch. He’s meticulous and so takes a lot of time, and unkind people have at times hassled him over that. Please know that going in, and everyone will come away happy.
