Tim Gracyk website includes an article by J R Wakeman about 263 phonograph manufacturers of the late teens- early twenties, the heyday of the phonograph industry... You could check for the name there. I remember a certain 'Portola' phonograph...

An updated and expanded (over 450 brands listed) version of J.R. Wakeman's article on "Off Brand Phonographs" is posted on the APS website:

https://www.antiquephono.org/brand-talk ... j-wakeman/

Portophone is listed as #307.

I too would like to find out more about them. I bought this one about a month ago because (a) it was in rather decent shape, (b) it was cheap, and (c) I wanted the Ultona reproducer, which I'm reasonably sure is not original. It would be nice to see some photos of others.

An original conversion... If mine, I would leave it with the Brunswick tonearm. It looks impressive! I love that speed control, never seen that before!

I like the speed control as well. Very unique. For the time being it's going to stay as-is, until I get more information on it.
