Edison Green Horn

Hello!
There is an Edison Green Horn for sale on eBay. It’s something on my bucket list, but never seeing one I’m very Leary if it’s just a repainted black horn. Any tips or advice would be appreciated!

Though the pictures are not great, it looks like a very nice horn. It's not an "Edison horn" necessarily. It was an aftermarket horn that would be suitable for any cylinder phonograph, including Edison. Photos of the outside surface are poor. Hard to say if it's original paint there. The inside surfaces appear to have original finish however.

I don’t see any Edison decals. Looks like pictures were taken badly on purpose. If I had an original green horn for sale, I’d make sure the pictures were spot on.

What I find annoying about that sale is the starting bid of 250.00$ and the it says "reserve not met"

One has to start filling in the first bid amount until the reserve is met _ what ever that is.

Why don't these people just start the first bid amount what ever the reserve is _ very annoying !

And about the horn, most lead paint is dull and cracked, someone may have shellacked it or varnished it over the original paint.

That's because, as I mentioned above, it's NOT and Edison horn.

Genuine green horns are quite rare, especially in nice condition. I was fortunate enough to find one, but it didn’t come cheap. Green is my favorite color, so when I found the one that I am showing, I didn’t let it get away.

I would write to the seller and request additional information regarding originality and condition as well as better pictures.

It looks like it is a repainted horn to me... the flowers don’t look period to me, to small and different paint style. The gold border is very bright... if serious about it get additional close ups of the flowers. Just my two cents.

I used to have this reprint of this 1908 Sears and Roebuck and there were all sorts of Gramophone's in there, including these horns.
One could order these horns with roses, chrysanthemums, or peonies, this horn what looks like chrysanthemums, the flowers are someone's version of what the flower looks like, but the leaves certainly look correct.
My two cents anyway.

I'd have to agree with Gregg, something doesn't look right with the paintings.

Here is one I have:

With the flowers on the outside edge of the horn.

Need to see some really good close in pictures or the actual horn to say if it's original or a re-paint.
Just my take on the picture as posted.
